There is an expression in English, that "Hindsight is 20 / 20." It means, upon further reflection, a better choice could have been made. If I knew what I know now, I would have made different choices in my life. For some choices, ignorance was bliss, until I realized it wasn't. Everyday is a new day to make different choices. With that said, 20 / 20 is also thought of by many as having 'perfect vision.' Students of eyesight know that 20 / 20 is more like "average normal" vision. But, normal in one place, may not be normal in another place / country. And what is normal for one age range, is not for another. Regardless, our eyesight can be much better than 20 / 20. [As far as I know, there is no similar expression for the metric equivalent - 6 / 6]
Why is this section titled - Better than 20 / 20? Because I fully expect my vision to improve to better than 20 / 20. As a child I remember being told in 7th grade that my left eye was 20 / 10 (was it even better?), and my right eye was about 20 / 80 or 20 / 100. I realized then why I struck out so much in fast pitch baseball a couple of years earlier (I was great at t-ball). I know my eyesight in my right was better when I was even younger because I recall winning an award at summer camp for bow and arrow (2nd/3rd grade?). Due to dark energy then, my eyesight gradually worsened. The more I remove this dark energy, the more my vision has reverted back to an optimal state. Read the next tab to learn about optimal vision.
In the book I mentioned how my eyesight has improved dramatically without lenses / (laser) surgery, just like Amanda wrote in the Epilogue. In this section I will be providing proof of my physical eyesight improvement - order receipts, optometrist visits, and photos of newer / older glasses. It's an on-going story, that you can participate in! The word - impossible - as it applies to changing your physical vision for the better (among other physical and mental improvements), can be a word that you relegate to another time and era, the one that you will leave behind.

The primary physical change has occurred in the timeframe noted, however, significant time was spent on acquiring the knowledge and experience to implement the change which has resulted in improved vision, among other health benefits. Change accelerated in 2013.
August 2019 - What a difference a year makes? Well… more like – what can happen in a year! Haven’t written in a while, partially, because I was dealing with an emergency health issue that was affecting my eyesight. I only realized this in January 2019. And unbeknownst to me, it was slowly affecting me in most of 2018 as well.
But, first things first. Just had my annual eye exam – this time at an optometrist I visited in 2016 – Dr.Hsu at Vision Plus. ….and the results are the same as September 2018 (11 months ago). But better than when I visited him in 2016 by -0.25 less in each eye. Results are the in the DATA section. Still need to add the 2018 results - hopefully I can find the printouts!
Am I disappointed, well considering where I was earlier in 2019 – not exactly. Multiple things were affecting my health in the past year – negatively. Sometimes to go forward, we go backwards. The adventure to reach OPTIMAL HEALTH is not a straight line!

November 2018 - Had an exam in September 2018 at a new optometrist I had not visited before. Actually, it was the same store as in 2015, but they had a new on-site optometrist. They had my old prescription. This new optometrist was curious as to how I was able to improve my vision. I gave her some pointers. Has she read Quiet Freedom? Yeah, people will be more astoundend when my vision returns to 20 / 20 without astigmatism and no surgery. Makes the face younger too this process. But let's focus on eyesight here.
And the results, disappointingly, were the same! My astigmatism was diagnosed back to -0.5 again. That was a positive. She had a different brand of equipment than what I recall seeing at other optometrists. That could be a factor. I remember the last two lens switches on the phoropter were very similar in focus - except one was a brighter image. I'm wondering if I chose the dimmer one - which more or less had the same sharpness of focus, would the result have been different (Down to -0.25 in my left)?. Another knock against me was I had the exam when heavy air pollution from forest fires, mostly in British Columbia, was lingering in the Seattle area. I couldn't reschedule for various reasons. The air quality during this time was on some days - the worst in the world. I know it was affecting people's health, did it affect my eyesight result? Here's a story about similar smoke affecting the San Francisco Bay Area - it talks about the eyes.
Exam aside, my real-world vision is still improving based on things I look at in similar lighting conditions. We shall just have to see next year. There could (finally!) be improvement again in my right eye next year as well - based on the emotions coming out / muscles relaxing.
On a recent trip abroad I also did a quick eye exam in Taipei, Taiwan. No phoropter fine-tuning, just an older model autorefractor - it was obvious. While there was no phoropter, the same individual manually manipulated some lenses. Though I think it was deceptive what he was doing. Anyway, regarding the autorefractor - I mention this because it gave a different score than the autorefractor in my most recent USA exam. I saw the printout - they didn't let me keep it! -0.25 WORSE in each eye. I've seen this mentioned elsewhere on the web. Technology has its limits and caveats. But the tech industry almost never mentions this (EMF / wireless radiation for example). If that was my optometrist -I would have been overprescribed. And that would mean eye strain! And declining vision! It was a cheap eye exam (Health care is cheap in Taiwan relative to the USA. Like super cheap. Like $5 cheap.), but came recommended by the hair stylist of my father.
I would not recommend that Taiwan optometrist, I'm sure there are better ones. But that wasn't the purpose of the trip, so not enough time to look for one. But once again, this is why it pays to get multiple opinions and be proactively involved in your own health. And don't become overly reliant on "high tech." Faulty LASIK eye lasers come to mind from a documentary I watched in the past year.
May 2018 - Not much to say other than vision continues to improve. I want to estimate my left is at 0.25, but I don't know. I do know that there are things I do frequently for work and when standing in the same place doing the same task, a wall of a couple hundred license plates on a wall (art installation) appears clearer and more readable - now at night. Earlier (2017) this was only readable in brighter conditions (daylight). Of course, seeing more things more clearly while driving. Noticing more too (Peripheral awareness). I suspect the astigmatism in my left eye won't go away until the focus returns to 0.00. In other words, the astigmatism appeared first many years ago. We'll see. The astigmatism also makes it difficult to precisely diagnose my vision on my eye charts. Right eye has relaxed a little, but probably won't see any change by the time of my next exam.
Also, my healing rate I realized recently was being negatively affected by exposure to secondary (environmental) microwave / RF radiation (EMFs). I've been in the process of eliminating and/or reducing my exposure as well as increasing my knowledge level well beyond what it was before. This has consumed a lot of my time recently as well as preparing for the 1st speaking event on Mind / No Mind. This exposure has also been negatively affecting my teeth, which is the weakest point of my body. Next update in September or October 2018. Recent upgrades to some programs I use for this site will hopefully allow me to make some much needed improvements - marked as future. (Upgraded to a laptop with a 4K screen but my main apps didn't fully support this which made them just a little bit harder to use, now they are compatible. Really can discren clarity between 4k and non-4k!)
In the past few months I learrned that prolonged RF radiation exposure from wi-fi / cell towers / microwave oven radiation can lead to cataracts. Since no one gets cataracts "overnight" that means that part of my vision improvement has likely been clearing of my lenses which may have experienced micro burns (Lack of a better word) due to my past RF exposure. I don't know this...but a future OCT test might be revealing. My OCT scores are already good, but could they be better? In other words, everyone exposed to prolonged RF likely has diminished eyesight due to damage from RF. "Pre-cataracts" we can call it. I have a placeholder for a future webpage on cataracts, how we get them, and how to avoid them!
November 2017 report - Vision continues to improve. Noticing more things at more light levels than before. It's strange to be going in the opposite direction as everyone else. I recently saw a couple of old friends and they are the same age as me and they have grey hair already. They probably just think it is aging, when in fact it is very specific things they do, that I no longer do. It might be called premature aging, which seems to be more common these days, but that's another story. On that note, I chuckle at some people's health routines and what is marketed as healthy, some of which I participated in before.
I'm not sure just how much effort (especially being the first), and scope of knowledge people realize was necessary for me to acquire, to do what I am now doing. Nor how different and unique it is to be improving your eyesight naturally in this span of time and at this rate of change. Nor the implications on overall health. There are much bigger plans than just improving eyesight, and depending on what you've read, you will see me talking about other aspects of health improvement. Or maybe people just think the improvement will just stop? Some people have commented to me on how remarkable it is. There's no secret, it's just self-education. And the most important thing to learn is encoded in Quiet Freedom.
I'm closing in on 44 years of age in this body. Most people guess 10-20 years less, and the only people who guess 10 years are those who have some idea of my background. No presbyopia, improving vision in all metrics (See note below on astigmatism). I'm not in "perfect" health, I still have some teeth/gum issues and some other minor issues, some of which I've had my whole life. Much of this may be detailed in the Optimal Body topic in the future.
**Oh, and I think my last optometrist visit overstated my astigmatism, it is still 0.5. Because when I try on my new glasses, I find them uncomfortable. Basically, I don't wear them. One of these days I'll get the lenses swapped out.
July 2017 report - The results are in. My left eye diagnosis has improved 33% since last July 2016 - 1 year. Overall improvement is now 60%. My right eye was measured at -2.25, back to what it was in 2015. So, 40% improvement off of lows again - now with more certainty as 2 exams indicate this. Really, I don't think there has been any measurable change though since 2015, in terms of focus (Brightness and peripheral vision improvements - yes). [See vision fluctuations note below] The way my muscles have been unwinding / relaxing, it is focused on the left side of my body more. This would make sense too, as my left eye worsened after my right eye was already quite bad, relatively speaking. So, in this reversal process, the left will improve mostly first before the right will fully heal. The official documents are in the DATA section. This new optometrist also did a test I never had before with an Optovue OCT (Optical coherence tomography) system. It measures the thickness of the retina, and ganglion cell complex (Try saying that twice!). I scored well on this exam, so no interior eye issues.
In this exam the optometrist noted I had a slightly worse astigmatism in my right eye. Either other optometrists have not been so thorough as she is, she has a different method / style for evaluating astigmatism, or there is a slightly more astigmatism for the moment as my body realigns and unwinds other muscles. Improvement is not a straight line. It will vary depending on one's current lifestyle and past history.
Feb 2017 interim anecdotal report - Continuing to notice more objects at farther away distances. More awareness of surroundings and more objects coming in to focus. For the most part, I am comfortable driving at night on local streets and freeways without any vision correction / glasses. I may occassionally wear glasses at night, but definitely not during the daytime - sunny or gray skies. Watching TV in a darkened room, I seldom use glasses now as well. TV is not as clear and bright as with glasses (weak right eye), but it is for the most part in focus. Recently renewed my driver's license and applied for what's called an Enhanced Driver's License. This required a vision test. I passed it without wearing glasses (nor contacts which I don't wear). Now, there is no restriction note on my driver's license stating that I need corrective lenses. Will post photos of the two licenses later. Again, next vision test in summer 2017. Another 4-5 months of improvement to look forward to.
Oct 2016 interim anecdotal report - recently returned from a 3 week trip to Europe - with the most time spent in very warm and sunny Portugal, and Southwest Spain. The sunlight did me good as I sense that my vision has improved again (More rods and cones, optic nerves?). Things seem brighter and again I am noticing things I didn't notice before in the distance and near. But, I won't know the official change until Summer 2017. But, I do feel comfortable driving in the daylight (sunny day) without using any glasses now! I was able to do this before legally, but I felt more comfortable wearing glasses. Gray and dark days and at night, I still prefer to use glasses.

As of August 2019
At current rate of improvement, I estimate 20 / 20 or -0.00 with no astigmatism in my left eye will be achieved in mid late-2018 2021. possibly early 2019. As I only get an exam once a year, the date on which it becomes 20 / 20 will likely be a self-diagnosis at first with my wall mounted eye chart at home. Further improvements from there to get to the optimal range of 20 / 8 - 20 / 1 is most likely the creation of more rods & cones and biochemical / bioelectrical improvements in my body. My eyesight is improving at different rates. Improvement of right eye to 20 / 20 is estimated to take place by the year late-2020 TBD. Next vision check in fall 2020 (probably in October), though I may get a quick check in 1Q 2020 while traveling - free checkup. Since I've never done this before nor know of anyone who has improved their vision this way, there is uncertainty in these estimates.
Visions fluctuations: Vision fluctuates with recent diet - too much salt for example in a given time period - something which I have personally experienced in the span of a few minutes of eating too much salt. Too much sugar I am told by my optometrist will also do the same, though I have not noticed this personally something which I have noticed on several occassions recently. After a delay of 1 - 2 hours or even sooner, less than 30 minutes. I've found it depends on how much sugar is already in my system and your pace of consumption and what you eat the sugar laden item with. I have noticed how too much sugar in my system distorts my vision.
My peripheral and side vision is also improving! There is only one optometrist I am aware of that measures this with an actual number (See to Play author Michael Peters). Perhaps someday I will get tested by him. Some of his findings noted in his book on how elite athlete eyes are different than average eyes, is located in the EYE UNIVERSITY page.

Physical vision is more than just visual acuity looking straight ahead - or the number that is measured in optometrist offices. It is also:
- Depth perception (at a distance and with both eyes)
- Color perception
- Contrast sensitivity
- Night vision
- While physically moving / twisting our body
- Detailed Vision Zone (term borrowed from See to Play author Michael Peters)
- Peripheral / Side Vision
- Direct sunlight vision
- Underwater vision
These factors are affected by:
- "Diseases"* with names like - glaucoma, clouding of lenses (cataracts), macula degeneration, etc...
- or standard visual acuity issues - myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia
Using glasses, contact lenses, and/or getting LASIK, PRK, or implants, only improves focus, it does not give us more rods/cones or prevent the deterioration of them. Or prevent presbyopia. [But knowledge of why our eyesight goes bad and all the factors related to it - will!]
Now that we know what physical vision consists of, what is optimal eyesight? Let's define it as the best possible vision.
As you learn more, you may choose to change various aspects of how you live. If you take enough of these steps, one of the abilties you will improve and accelerate is our body's self-healing capability. As Amanda talks about her body de-stressing and vision improving, this is exactly what is happening to me. While vision is only the beginning, this is what we are going to focus on in this series of webpages. *The word disease is in quotes, because that word and labels that are connected to it is very limiting. We've picked up the habit of labeling every single malady that occurs in our body and finding a focused solution, rather than finding the broad underlying cause which is connected to all ailments. Afer reading Quiet Freedom, you should already know what to do to reawaken your curiosity, and have a flexible enough mind and heart to accept whatever you learn!As it is difficult to quantify many of the aforementioned aspects of optimal eyesight, we will settle for simply talking about visual acuity. Many optometrists only measure to 20 / 10 (6 / 3 - metric) on the Snellen chart. They may be unaware of what is the best possible vision. If you research yourself, you may learn that numerous optometrists believe that 20 / 8 is the best possible human vision. Is that all?!
The best human vision recorded in the medical literature is that of some Australian Aborigines. Numerous medical journal articles have referenced multiple individuals who have 20 / 6 vision*, and one individual was recorded as having 20 / 5 - as good as an eagle**.
Not to be outdone, supposedly some hawks have 20 / 2 vision, though the data points on this are not as clear. Even more intriguing is the Guinness World Record for human vision - a woman who is described as having 20 / 1 vision! Photo of her here?
So, what is the human maximum for visual acuity? 20 / 8? 20 / 6? 20 / 5? 20 / 2? Or 20 / 1? I guess I won't really know, until I've gotten rid of all my dark energy. Might it even include the ability to see into other wavelengths? Infrared? Ultraviolet? We'll see...

In my investigation about how good our eyes can become, I realized one group of people today have very good vision / visual acuity. Baseball players. Here are some articles for you to read. They will confirm the 20 / 8 maximum that (some) optometrists think is the maximum. They must be unaware of the Australian Aboriginal research, or they discount it.

Baseball vision - when 20/20 eyesight just won't cut it (Providence Journal)
It is one thing to have excellent vision when we are young, quite another as we age. In some of the articles, it isn't fully clear if the figures given were uncorrected or corrected (w/ contacts or laser) Using contact lenses and LASIK have short-term, mid-term, and long-term consequences, which will be discussed elsewhere.
How Your Vision Changes As You Age (All About Vision)
Numerous articles talk about how the peak performance age for baseball players is in the late 20s / early 30s. Since vision is so important to baseball, due to the repetitive motions and diet of most baseball players, we can surmise that most all baseball players vision begins to decline around this age as well.
If you are interested in space or astronomy as I have been, you might have been mesmerized by photos of deep space from the Hubble Space Telescope. What you may not know about the Hubble Telescope is that after it was first put into space in April 1990, it became apparent that there was a flaw with the primary mirror which resulted in distorted images. The Hubble became the butt of many jokes.
The jokes continued until December 1993 when a servicing mission corrected the "bad eyesight." Why do I tell you this story? We are "smart" enough to design a complicated piece of machinery like the Hubble telescope, the equipment to launch it into space, and then fix a vision problem that became apparent. But for all our ingenuity, we aren't "smart" enough to fix our own vision and eyesight - naturally, because we haven't fully understood how it becomes bad in the first place!
And this is a simple introductory metaphor for sharing with you my experience in improving my own vision / eyesight and (eventually) achieving what I call, OPTIMAL EYESIGHT. There was a time, not so long ago, when people made jokes about me and things I learned about before my eyesight and overall health started improving. Sometimes things don't go according to plan or expectations even though the overall approach has a solid foundation. Until the whole story comes out, I'll just leave it at that.

On this page will be written evidence of my physical eyesight improvement as measured by various optometrists.
My vision prescription as diagnosed in the mid-1990s was Left / Right: -1.25 / -3.75. This is the worst my visual acuity had become. I quickly learned to wear soft contact lenses (after trying and failing with gas permeable hard lenses), as I detested wearing glasses. I also learned that to prevent our vision from getting any worse we should use a slightly underpowered prescription. This knowledge came courtesy of reading - natural vision improvement - books. Doing eye exercises however, I never was able to improve my vision in any meaningful way, at best, it didn't get worse.
This underpowered correction is the reason you won't see any orders for lenses at the diopters that optometrists prescribe(d) to me to get back to 20 / 20.
Multiple optometrists are used to get different opinions, eliminate bias, and different optometrists have different technology at their disposal.

The actual exam result of -0.75 / - 2.50 also includes a little printout from a machine called an auto-refractor. Auto-refractors provide optometrists with a baseline measurement of the eye. It is not necessarily accurate, but gives eye doctors a reference point on where to start. You can see the auto-refractor said my right eye is -2.50 with -0.75 astigmatism. My left eye as -1.00 with a -0.50 astigmatism. The actual exam with a phoropter, "fine-tunes" the auto-refractor result. In this case -0.25 less on my left eye.

/ spot. This is a small dark pigmented spot on the white part of my eye, clearly visible in the mirror. I don't know how long it has been there or why it is there.
Contact lens use? The optometrist said it was nothing to be concerned about. Which is great, but it must affect my vision in
some way. Perhaps in time it will go away. It's a blockage. Like a benign mole on my skin.

This is a comparison of both of my old -1.25 / - 3.75 glasses and the new pair of glasses I received in November 2015 -0.75 / - 2.00. Now the 2015 glasses are too strong for me to wear for any significant length of time. I wear them when watching TV sometimes, as I keep my primary glasses in the car. Later I will swap out the lenses for a reduced power. Also included is a photo of a pair of non high-index glasses - you can see how much stronger the right eye prescription is.

*From 2016 on, I will not be purchasing any more contact lenses or getting related exams. I wore them regularly until 2010 or so. Then only on certain occassions. From 2013-early 2016, I did not wear them. I wore them on a 2 week trip in early 2016 but on a recent 3 week 2016 trip to Europe, relied only on my natural vision and glasses. My latest glasses are very light and comfortable and I have decided the damage done by contact lenses and related solutions are not worth it, it only slows down the healing process. I use my glasses only while traveling to some place new, or sometimes while driving. Just a matter of time before the left eye becomes sharp enough and I won't order any more glasses.
**In 2016 I learned of one of the major reasons my eyes have had such a significant power difference - the eyes of my older sister. I always knew she had poor vision, but I didn't realize how bad until recently. She sent me her optometrist reports from the last few years and her 2016 vision is -12.25 / -23.0! Yes 23! They have worsened from her exam in 2010 which was -11.25 / -16.5. My sister has a very different temperament to mine. Needless to say, she has a lot of dark energy inside her, and this I know because a notable percentage of the darkness I've purged in the last few years is linked to her. Energy she has created herself, from my parents, relatives, and people she has known, even from nursery school. She also has numerous habits which contribute to poor eye health. She sent me her OCT report, and her scores are in the red - 22. Mine are green - 72 / 69.
To be clear though, the darkest and deepest dark energy is created by ourselves. Another reason for poor vision is the quality of light from computer screens and indoor lighting. Both of these issues can be mitigated, but I didn't have that knowledge when I was younger. Also diet. Again, it all comes naturally and gradually if you read and accept the central message of Quiet Freedom.
What are some of the advantages of better vision?
In the modern world, it can make you better at sports, make you a better driver, or better at hunting - for some specific target. Such as "hunting" for wildlife to see and enjoy - if you are a birder for example. Better vision will make you see threats and opportunites sooner and give you more time to react to them.
It makes you safer, yet, it also makes you more adventurous. Personally, I think it gives you more freedom and confidence because the awareness of your surroundings goes up dramatically. It happens on a subconscious level. Since you will notice details better too, you will find more joy in life if you are interested in looking at details. It also helps you understand the big picture better. Superior eyesight is not an ability by itself. In order to achieve this, we have to be more relaxed, a lot more! And being more relaxed internally, that leads to a host of other benefits. Perhaps, kind of like children, but with a wiser frame of mind! Playful and joyful....
It's not just more focus as contact lenses or glasses may give you, but all the other aspects of vision improve as noted in Optimal Eyesight, for other parts of the eye are improved due to improved electrical flow. This could include more rods and cones, pRGC cells, and better nerve health / performance of cells. The eye is complex.
A metaphor might be in buying a digital camera with a better lens (optics) and a higher megapixel count (More rods and cones). Better cameras take better photos in low light and when shooting fast moving objects. Of course, photos are higher resolution as well. Certain digital cameras also have wide angle lens capability. Thus, just as with our metaphor on the Hubble telescope, we know how to create better and better digital cameras, but we don't know how to make our vision better. But, now we do. Who will be WE?

Here we will briefly discuss the various methods for correcting our vision. As well as a a little more technical discussion on why our eyesight goes bad.
There are several methods to correct our vision, all of them are temporary, except one.
Glasses - Doesn't need an introduction, but do you know anyone who uses glasses regularly who has improved their eyesight? Optometrists don't repair our vision, they simply provide a crutch. For that we are thankful, but there is a time to part ways, and it is coming soon for me.
Contacts - Another "wonder" of the medical industry. Convenient and attractive are the selling points. Long term use of contacts (15 years) in my past has caused blood veins (visible up close over the white part) to grow toward the cornea. This is because contact lenses don't let our eyes "breathe" properly. A form of this is called conjunctivitis, except the blood vein(s) from overusage of contacts are semi-permanent / deeper. Semi-permanent, because I expect them to go away over time. At a recent check (late 2016) there seems to have been an improvement over time from when I first noticed them, but I don't pay too close attention to them. In other words, OVER TIME, I expect the whites of my eyes to be ALL WHITE - how they should be!! Also, marketed as "safe," putting an artificial solution (cleaning) on our eyes on a regular basis, in hindsight, doesn't seem all that smart. Contacts have been useful at various points of my life, but this is another thing I am leaving behind.
LASIK - A marvel of modern medicine which has been performed tens of millions of times, or is it? The idea sounds enticing, just zap your eyes and you have perfect vision, or close to it. Hey, if it worked for Tiger Woods, it must be ok. Read here too - says he was getting headaches from squinting. He also says eight years was pretty good before it changed. TW got a good financial and fame return, but as one gets older, how does that LASIK vision hold up? What is the value of that? And when you get rid of dark energy, you start to get younger, and eight years of good vision or a little longer with an "enhancement," is not really a long time at all. Is the drop off in his performance due to vision problems? Or the stress in his body that caused his -11.0 vision in the first place? Stress that hasn't been relieved. Celebrities with LASIK -- some dates for celebrity LASIK are - Kim Kardashian 2009, Lebron James 2007, Dwayne Wade 2011, Chris Paul 2016, Courtney Cox 1999 (plastic surgery horror story), Brad Pitt 2010, Richard Branson 2002, Jessica Simpson 2004, Nicole Kidman 2007, and so on... You'll find many testimonial videos, but remember, they are all SHORT-TERM! And again, only improve VISUAL ACUITY TEMPORARILY. No more rods/cones or stress relief. Funny how many of these lists don't mention the issues some of these celebrities have publicly voiced. Or the drop off in performance of certain athletes. Again, be careful what you wish for. Short term gain, long term pain. Search for CELEBRITY LASIK to see more or LASIK REGRET. LASIK was FDA (USA) approved in 1998. Searching in other countries may also be helpful.
I've met a few people who have had LASIK and one who had early PRK. All of them have told me they have issues. Some need glasses now for certain distances, one has night vision issues, and others have other visual disturbances or dry eyes. The reason the effects are temporary, is that LASIK or any other laser doesn't solve the ROOT problem, and the body instinctively wants to heal itself, and applying a laser to our eye is damaging it - even if there is a temporary improvement to visual acuity. One friend who had LASEK stated that he had no side effects after many years.
If you've had LASIK and you are wondering now could your body self-heal your corneas back to what they were and/or even better. The answer is: I don't know. Who wants to try?
If you've had LASIK, and have no side effects after 5-10 years, 15 years, consider yourself lucky. One person I talked to recently said he had dry eyes earlier but then that went away and there's been good vision. It wasn't an in-depth conversation so it isn't clear if there was anything amiss after 5-10 years.
OrthoK - Using a system of hard contacts, one can reshape their eyeball to focus light at 20 / 20 or better. One must wear these lenses daily at night, but are free during the day. The side effect of this is in forcing our eyes to be a certain shape even though they don't want to be that way due to our internal system / configuration. Implants - Instead of contact lenses you put ON your eyes everyday, a set is implanted IN your eyes. Learn more on the Eye University page.
Eye Exercises - There are numerous books that talk about eye exercises. I've read many of them and tried the exercises but they never worked for me. At best, they prevented my vision from getting worse. This is sometimes known as the Bates Method. Or in another form, Eye Yoga. It may work for you, if you are persistent.
Active Focusing - This method is relatively unknown, but is best described in this Youtube video. Or - FAQ. This method is comprised of 3 components. 1) Print Pushing / Plus Lenses, 2) Progressively weaker lenses, and 3) Fusing ghost images. My opinion is that this method only alters the eyeball muscles (cilia) and not surrounding facial and neck / shoulder muscles to any significant degree. It is not permanent and requires some limited maintenance as he mentions (15-30 minutes / week says the speaker). He notes his vision is not 20 / 20 in both eyes. .
Doesn't solve presbyopia, though it may minimize it per the speaker. Also, this method does nothing to very little in my view of improving the electrical aspects / optical performance of our eye, never mind the health of the rest of our body. Speaker does acknowledge this in the video in the Q&A at the 31 minute mark. Better eyesight with other parts of our body falling apart....well... that sounds better, but could we do better? Also, no 3rd party verification is provided as no exams have been done since the mid-1990s. In a way, this method seems like a milder form of OrthoK. Forcing our eyes over a longer period of time to be a certain way even though they don't want to be that way. This abnormal pressure may cause eye issues later on. There are reports of others who have used just component #2 - progressively weaker lenses with better success. See the next entry. In summary, this Active Focusing method may work for your situation in a shorter timeframe, but there are caveats and limitations.
Underpowered lenses - May also be called the Reduced Lens method or Progressively Weaker Lenses. This involves wearing underpowered lenses by -0.25 to -0.5 or slightly more (10%?) depending on your current prescription. One person told me anecdotally that her vision improved from -1.75 to -1.25 using this method over an unknown number of years. I've worn underpowered contact lenses (as noted in the DATA page) and it stopped my vision from getting worse, but no noticeable improvement. (Should be noted that the Active Focusing method described above uses glasses, not contact lenses as I tried). Diet / Supplements - Carrots are good for your eyes is some wisdom you may have heard. All that vitamin A. How about Lutein and Bilberry? Have you heard of psoralens in carrots? Having a vitamin A deficiency is one thing, but a lot of vision issues are not related to this. I took Lutein and Bilberry at various points in life - no change. I'll classify that experience as - hoping there was a magic pill to solve all my problems.
"When activated by sunlight or another source of ultraviolet light, psoralens may have phototoxic, mutagenic and photo-carcinogenic effects. Consequently, foods rich in psoralen may cause dermatitis, sunburn and age spots (also known as liver spots) when your skin is exposed to sunlight. Mind / No Mind - Sometimes to fix something you must take an indirect approach. My goal wasn't to fix my eyesight when I "discovered" Mind / No Mind, but one thing leads to another sometimes... Mind / No Mind does not involve the consumption of anything nor any exercises - only learning to relax your entire mind and body. It is learning to consume, or rather need, less, over time. The coming years will prove if indeed my vision does return to better than 20 / 20 in both eyes.
The ROOT problem: Our eyesight goes bad because of stresses on our body. That's it. But stress takes many forms. Many stresses we don't realize are affecting us because we have become used to them, we are used to being stressed and then using pain-relievers and pain-killers like aspirin, alcohol, nicotine, or caffeine to suppress the pain. And/or these stresses affect us gradually, a little bit each day so we don't realize how harmful they are. These forms includes the FOOD we eat or don't eat. The LIGHT we expose ourselves to or the LIGHT we don't expose ourselves to. The EMF ENERGY we expose ourselves to or that which we don't. The way we THINK about ourselves, the LIQUIDS we drink or don't, and the CHEMICALS we expose ourselves to, and the SOUNDS, including music, that we expose ourselves to. Also the SPORTS and EXERCISE routines we participate in, which twist our body and muscles in certain ways, think repetetive stress injuries. The latter also includes repetitive actions we do at WORK.
